Manufactured in the USA, Protectowire’s linear heat detectors are distributed in over 120 countries worldwide. They are UL listed and FM approved and trusted for a vast array of fire detection applications.
Petrochemical storage
Protectowire’s linear heat detector is a simple, cost-effective form of fire detection for both fixed and floating roof tanks. This system adapts easily to retrofit or new installations and is available with intrinsically safe circuits. On fixed tanks, Protectowire can be installed to monitor gauge points, vent areas, or manholes. In floating roof tanks, Protectowire’s retractable cable is used, and the linear heat detector is installed around the perimeter of the rim seal area in order to provide continuous monitoring for overheating and fire along its entire length.
Cold storage warehouses and freezers present unique fire protection challenges. The cold, extremely dry environment compounded with the various combustibles including food products and packing materials are commonly ignited during lighting, refrigeration and/or other equipment failures. The false activation of pre-action sprinkler systems can result in substantial downtime and financial loss. The Protectowire CTI Series provides the only fixed-temperature digital linear heat detector that offers short-circuit discrimination and the most dependable and cost-effective fire-detection option for refrigerated storage applications. The CTI-135-XLT is designed specifically to meet these demands and has the lowest activation temperature for digital linear heat detectors at 57°C (135°F) currently available in the market.

Solar panels
Solar panel fires are typically caused by short circuits, maintenance operations, roof debris, animal nests, physical damage, lightning strikes or panel overheating. Protectowire’s Confirmed Temperature Initiation (CTI) series Linear Heat Detector (LHD) is a fixed-temperature detector designed to meet the detection challenges presented in solar panel installations. The CTI Series requires heat to generate an alarm condition, physical damage to the detector will not produce an alarm. The CTI Series Linear Heat Detector is monitored by a CTM-530 module, this interface module is compatible with virtually all fire-alarm control panels. The CTM-530 module offers multiple interface options that include form C relay contacts, Modbus via RS-485, or two 4–20mA outputs all designed to simplify integration into a control panel or building system.
Conveyors
The major risks of fire in conveyor installations are overheated bearings, combustible materials being conveyed, and in the case of belt conveyors, the belt itself. Once a fire is ignited, it can spread quickly along the length of the conveyor and be extremely difficult to extinguish. A Protectowire linear heat detector is typically installed directly over the conveyor or on either side of the belt near the roller bearings. Protectowire systems can be designed to protect all types of conveyors.
