MetalCraft Marine Incorporated has recently completed the delivery of a fleet of emergency response vessels to the Kuwait Fire Services, consisting of 3 Firestorm 50’s and a 15 meter Landing Craft.
The vessels were designed and built by MetalCraft Marine Inc, Canada. Throughout the build phase they welcomed considerable input from the expert fire-fighting personnel from Kuwait Fire Services.
The custom aluminum fire/rescue vessels measure 15 meters long and are diesel-water-jet propelled capable of 40 Knots top speed. The Firestorm 50 can pump in excess of 7000 gallons per minute at 150psi from twin Hale pumps and is well equipped to fight both ship-board and on-shore fires. Twin Caterpillar C-18 engines produce 1015mhp each, along with twin 377 jets from Ultra Jet and MetalCraft’s unique hull form, give a top speed of 40 knots and a comfortable cruising speed of 32 knots. This speed, combined with its full size patient berth area and water level recovery deck, makes the Firestorm 50’s ideal for rescue and dive operations in addition to fire-fighting.
Eric Connell, Project Manager MetalCraft Marine Inc. said, “Kuwait was once the busiest and largest port city in the middle east. In recent years the Kuwait Port Authority has made significant efforts to reclaim that title. The support that our boats provide to the Kuwait Fire Services Directorate will help ensure that cargo continues to move smoothly through the port.”
Lt. Colonel Bader Alkdem, Kuwait Fire Services said, “We began a search for the perfect fire-rescue boat that would help serve our needs in the Port and waterways and found MetalCraft Marine. There has been an increase in ships and tankers in the Gulf region over the last few years which caused several accidents and congestion in our Ports, and the Marine Fire Department did not have a safe way to patrol the Port and territorial water. Throughout our time with MetalCraft we found them to be very knowledgeable and worked very hard to accommodate our requirements. We ended up with high quality boats which have proved successful on emergency calls.”
