The strategic collaboration between Honeywell and Strata Manufacturing (Strata), the advanced manufacturing facility wholly owned by Mubadala Investment Company PJSC (Mubadala), to produce ‘Made in the UAE’ N95 masks, has expanded its support to Abu Dhabi’s health and emergency service workers by signing a contract with Cleveland Clinic, Abu Dhabi to deliver new respirators.
The Al Ain-based manufacturing line, which produced the high-quality face masks certified to meet N95 and FFP2 standards, was established last year in response to the global pandemic. Available to enterprises across the Middle East, the masks can be also purchased by the general public via noon.com.
The Honeywell masks can filter 95% of large and small solid and liquid particles. Masks that are not certified to N95 standard may not provide this level of protection against the inhalation of smaller airborne particles. Ergonomically designed to provide comfort and optimum protection, the N95 Honeywell masks provide a leak-tight seal that helps minimize toxic particles from entering the mask. The innovative design adapts to a wide variety of facial shapes allowing for a comfortable fit, and the large interior volume provides increased comfort to users.
Mubadala has been vital in supporting the healthcare sector to ensure the safety and wellbeing of UAE communities, and fostered the initial agreement between the two companies to utilize the latest technology and machinery at Strata’s Al Ain facility to manufacture the masks. Capable of producing more than 90,000 masks per day, the collaboration celebrated its first millionth mask in July 2020.
Hasan Al Nowais, CEO, Mubadala Health, said: ‘We are very proud to facilitate the production of N95 masks in the UAE through the Strata-Honeywell partnership established last year. Through this collaboration, we will continue to provide high-quality personal protective equipment, which is especially critical at a time when global supply chains have been severely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.
‘We worked closely with end-users, including Cleveland Clinic, Abu Dhabi, in assessing the quality of the masks, and found them to be an ideal solution to help protect frontline workers.’
Prior to the opening of the Strata-Honeywell mask operation, N95 masks were typically imported to the UAE from abroad. The partnership has also transformed the UAE into an international exporter of N95 masks to help respond to the spread of Covid-19 around the world.
‘We are committed to helping safeguard people around the world through the manufacture and supply of high-quality, critical PPE. Our collaboration with Strata is playing an important role in this commitment, by helping limit the spread of Covid-19 through the provision of N95 masks that are not only helping front-line workers keep us safe but are now available for individuals to purchase too,’ said Miroslav Kafedzhiev, vice president and general manager for Honeywell Safety and Productivity Solutions, Middle East, Russia, Turkey and Africa.
He continued: ‘Through our long-term partnership with Mubadala’s subsidiary, Strata Manufacturing, we have been able to mobilize rapidly to provide a much-needed solution during these challenging times. We will continue to work with organizations in support of the UAE visionary leadership’s mission to mitigate the spread of the virus.’
Ismail Ali Abdulla, CEO of Strata, added: ‘As a pioneer in the UAE’s manufacturing sphere, Strata’s ability and agility to swiftly dedicate factory space was a crucial step of commitment to fulfil the needs of PPE, in order to protect the front-line workers and the community against the pandemic.’
He continued: ‘The expansion of the partnership with Honeywell represents Strata’s growth as a manufacturer of trusted UAE products that spans multiple industries with an aim of meeting local demands and supporting the UAE government’s efforts. We are confident that by working with our partners, we will collectively emerge stronger and more resilient with an ultimate objective of helping the rest of the world recover from this crisis.’
The collaboration between Honeywell and Strata is part of Mubadala’s #WeAreDedicated campaign, a recently launched group-wide response to the Covid-19 pandemic and its efforts to coordinate initiatives across its business platforms and assets to support communities locally and internationally.
