British manufacturer, Haztec International, returns to Intersec Dubai (Dubai World Trade Centre, 19-21 January 2020) with many new products from its extensive range of emergency vehicle lighting and audible warning systems which are in wide use in the Middle East and throughout the world.
Haztec offers six separate lightbar ranges, all designed and built in the UK, including the latest R65 Class 2 approved ultra low profile (54.5mm high) Xpert SLX which is available with single, dual, tri or quad colour LED modules. The use of multi-colour LED modules means that the lightbar can be programmed with very sophisticated lighting combinations with a small footprint. For example, a single colour LED module can function as a single colour warning or white LED spot/takedown light, whilst multi-colour modules allow coloured warning lights to be combined with white LED spot/takedown/alley lights and/or directional amber LED arrow functions without the need for separate lighting modules for each colour and/or function.
Haztec lightbar lengths range from just 373 mm (15 inches) to 2.4 metres (95 inches) to suit the largest of vehicles, and come with a comprehensive selection of components from warning, alley/spot/flood, takedown and stop/tail/turn lighting modules to high output headlights for added illumination to the front of the vehicle, programmable LED message signs which provide vital information about the hazard ahead, and powerful acoustic, internal or undermount loudspeakers. This means that Haztec lightbars can be designed and built to the individual requirements of each customer, one of the unique specialisms of the manufacturer.
From the Xpress and Xpert lightbars which, with their extra height to accommodate dual row LEDs, are ideally suited to large fire appliances to compact, mini lightbars which can be quickly magnetically mounted onto the roof of an officer’s car and returned to the handy carry case when not required, there’s a Haztec lightbar to suit every vehicle type and application. For similar non-permanent needs, Haztec can offer a range of LED beacons including suction and magnetic mount models and the rechargeable magnetic mount 8LED beacon which delivers up to 12 hours’ battery life from a single charge. All magnetic mount beacons have been certified to wind speeds of up to 250 km/h, equivalent to 155 mph, (depending on model). Other non-permanent options include a choice of dash/deck LED warning lights which can be easily suction mounted to the inside of the windscreen or rear screen of the vehicle and quickly connected using the cigar plug lead supplied. These, and the many other non-permanent mount lighting options available from Haztec, are ideal solutions for preserving bodywork where vehicles are leased rather than purchased outright. A similar option is the Haztec number plate mounted light series which provide synchronised forward and sideways warning light for added visibility when emerging at junctions.
Haztec’s HQ in Leeds, UK, incorporates extensive research, design, testing and manufacturing facilities from where it has supplied many thousands of lightbars and associated vehicle warning products to the emergency services worldwide since it was formed almost two decades ago. The electronics design engineering team, for example, uses the latest advanced design technology to ensure the range offers the optimum combination of quality, ease of use and value for money.
The latest innovation is the 8-82415 EuroSmart siren/PA. This lightweight unit will drive one or two 8-7050 compact 50W round or square cowl Haztec speakers to deliver up to a very powerful 118dBA at 2 metres with one speaker and 123dBA with two speakers. The 8-82415 comes with dual radio rebroadcast input channels and a choice from 28 siren tones including mixed, true fanfare or vibrato (when installed with two speakers). A further plus, the USB connector means it’s easy to re-programme the siren at any time. The 8-82415 can be teamed with any Haztec CANbus handset or used as a standalone siren or siren with auxiliary microphone.
Haztec EuroSmart handsets and software allow sophisticated switching of lightbars, sirens and ancillary lights such as grille lights to be easily programmed, either at the Haztec factory or locally by a customer technician. A single push button, for example, can be programmed to activate a specific sequence of functions such as lightbar flash pattern, siren tone, grille and vehicle headlights. Brand new, and allowing even more advanced switching applications, is Haztec’s 8-82316 16-button handset. To make programming and operation even simpler than ever, the handset contains a series of screens which, using text and icons, enable users to control lights and siren operation as well as other functions such as monitoring battery voltage. Customers will be able to see the 8-82316 handset, as with all Haztec’s very latest products, on stand S3 D10 at Intersec Dubai.
In addition to lightbars, beacons and siren/PA systems, Haztec offers a wide range of vehicle mounted directional warning lighting, from large format 6×4 or 9×7 inch (150×100 or 228×176 mm) lights which emit extra warning power to the sides and/or rear of the vehicle, to the latest 4-10026 dual colour R65 Class 2 approved compact warning light, ideal for installation on the front grille. Another recent addition to the portfolio is the 5-355X/3560 slimline arrow/warning bar series. At just 28mm deep, the bar comes in a choice of lengths equipped with up to 10 x 6LED modules featuring powerful 3 Watt LEDs. Up to four patterns can be programmed from a wide choice of available configurations. The two end modules can also be set to emit a separate, continuous warning pattern with the option of blue or red LEDs. The unit can also be supplied with non R65 green or white LED modules, and can be mounted vertically or horizontally using the adjustable mounting brackets supplied.
Also new to the range and on display on Haztec’s stand will be the 7-7250 remote control searchlight with its powerful 3045 lumen long range beam. It offers full 360 degree continuous rotation, 90 degree upward and 30 degree downward elevation and two operating speeds. When powered down, the mechanism automatically returns the light to a safe, parked position so that the beam does not dazzle oncoming traffic when the light is switched back on.

Haztec programmable high intensity LED message signs can be installed within the lightbar or alternatively supplied as a ‘flip-up’ unit for mounting on the rear parcel shelf. They can display up to 9 characters without scrolling and up to 99 separate messages which are easy to select from the handset with its backlit LCD display and illuminated buttons to aid use in low level lighting conditions. Messages can be any combination of text and/or custom bitmap symbols.
For applications where lighting is required to be integrated into the roof of the vehicle Haztec can also offer the Integrated LED system (ILS), a modular system of single and dual colour LED modules and linking power connectors which can be configured for any footprint. The complete assembly can be easily connected to flash controllers or more advanced switching systems for synchronisation control, arrow patterns, cruise and high/low power modes and siren/PA functions.
Haztec can also offer many lightbars and beacons with approved flash patterns for airside vehicles.
For added warning power when approaching an emergency, the latest Haztec compact 8-82838-HLF headlight flasher allows the vehicle headlights to be programmed to emit a powerful 75 flashes per minute (other frequencies available) but with an inhibit function to suspend headlight flash mode when normal headlight operation is needed.
The breadth of products offered by Haztec is the result of both a continuous commitment to innovation and close collaboration with customers around the globe to understand their changing needs, but what about quality? Engineering excellence is assured through stringent testing, independent certification and a robust quality management system. Haztec submits its products to a wide range of environmental tests, helping provide peace of mind that systems are sufficiently rugged for many years of use. In parallel, the majority of Haztec lightbars, warning lights and beacons are also independently certified to the United Nations regulation ECE R65, ensuring they meet minimum standards for light intensity or brightness at all necessary angles. The approval process also verifies flash frequency and light colour under Class 1 and/or the more stringent Class 2 conditions, in addition to water ingress protection. The R65 certification provides independent verification of the effectiveness of a product’s warning capability. Haztec products are similarly submitted for independent testing to UNECE Regulation 10 for electromagnetic compatibility. The manufacturer’s quality management system is also certified to the international standard ISO BS EN 9001:2015. Because of this, Haztec is able to supply its products with comprehensive warranties, typically five years for LEDs and up to three years on other products, for customer peace of mind.
