Used in place of traditional compartmentation or sprinkler systems, smoke and fire curtains offer greater flexibility to designers, enabling open-plan areas to be greater in size than permitted under building regulation recommendations. Fire and smoke curtains offer a flexible method for creating compartmentation and protecting means of escape as well as other applications within a building. When used as part of a fire-engineered design solution, they become a critical element of that design.
Coopers Fire offers a range of free Continuing Professional Development (CPD) seminars. Approved by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), the seminars aim to educate the fire-protection industry and wider building industry about application of fire and smoke curtains in buildings.
Official Saudi Arabian distributors for Coopers Fire, Energy & Building Masters (EBM), are able to deliver the CPD seminars on behalf of Coopers Fire.
Directed at construction industry professionals such as Architects, Building Control Officers, Building Engineers, Specifiers and the Fire and Rescue Service, the seminars provide an excellent overview of the benefits of specifying such products. Each seminar considers the construction, types, operation and application of fire and smoke curtains, as well as detailing the expected performance and the relevant standards that apply.
Three CPD presentations are available, which can be delivered at a time to suit:
Active smoke barriers
Provides delegates with an informative account of smoke curtain/barriers, their applications and the integral role they play when installed within the build environment in conjunction with Smoke, Heat, Exhaust and Ventilation (SHEVS) systems. It also provides delegates with a greater understanding of the governing standards and regulatory compliance.
Active fire-curtain barrier assemblies
From compartmentation to protecting a means of escape, this seminar will illustrate when and where fire-curtain barriers can be specified within the build environment. It provides delegates with a greater understanding of fire-curtain barriers and the governing standards that regulate their use. A review of a fire barriers’ operation, installation and continuous servicing requirements will provide delegates with the opportunity to ask pressing and topical questions.
BS 8524 Part 1 and 2: The only global standard for active fire-curtain barriers
Introduces BS 8524-1 and -2 for active fire-curtain barriers and provides professionals with a clear and comprehensive understanding of the changes from BSI PAS 121 and the newer more robust test requirements and application for use. It explains the significant requirements and the significance for use to provide compartmentation and protecting means of escape.
Coopers Fire is dedicated to advancing fire and smoke barrier curtain technology and improving ways to safeguard life and property. This commitment to developing innovative products that are robustly tested and independently certified has meant that Coopers Fire has become the benchmark used by Regulators, Architects, Engineers and other Fire Professionals worldwide.
It is this dedication to quality that has led to Coopers Fire smoke-barrier and fire-curtain systems being specified and installed in some of the world’s landmark buildings, for example the Shard in London, the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Haramain High-speed Railway stations in Saudi Arabia.
Coopers Fire are exhibiting at Intersec Saudi Arabia on 13–15 September 2022 in Riyadh with Energy & Building Masters (EBM). Find us on stand 2-A23.
