Dubai-based company Green Sustainable Solutions are pleased to announce a partnership with Hydro Navitas Solutions (UK) to sell the Cold Fire wetting agent which is a modern-day derivative of the original discovery going back to the 1930s.
During a wildfire, it was noticed that certain trees secreted a sap that protected tree structures from flames. Since then with blending development, a first ‘Wetting Agent’ has been evolved. Now 80 years on, its use is more relevant than ever for the modern-day firefighter.
Cold Fire is as natural as nature itself – nothing more than a well-formulated mixture of several plant extracts (saps), minerals and salts found naturally present within our soil.
NO chemicals are used or added during the blending process, so NO phosphate, bromine derivatives or polymers commonly found in other fire agents. And to use, Cold Fire is simplicity itself. In this environmentally conscious age, Cold Fire makes sense.
When Cold Fire is added to firefighting water, the water takes on new characteristics that enhance its overall efficiency, providing a single-use wetting agent that provides extraordinary extinguishing power to fight Class A, B, D and F type fires, in industrial, commercial and other sector outbreaks.
Of course, water itself does extinguish fires, but the issue with water is that in most cases you need lots of it to extinguish even a modest outbreak. It is here that Cold Fire gives water the modern edge it really needs.
Cold Fire uses both enzyme and encapsulation during the extinguishment of a fire. Its enzyme and natural surfactant properties enhance the breakup of water tension that make Cold Fire up to 21 times more efficient. It increases osmotic penetration to isolate hydrocarbon molecules, simultaneously cooling the fuel source below ignition point, and captures carbon in a smoke plume.
An endorsement from Imperial College London
The world-renowned Imperial College London University (ICL) recently concluded over 400 hours of research at its Department of Mechanical Engineering into the use of Cold Fire.
Summarising this work, Professor Rein of ICL said: ‘This “magical” suppressant could make it easier fighting peat and other fires which normally demand an incredible amount of physical work, time and water. Bio-degradable Cold Fire wetting agent could help everybody – civil defence, fire brigades, communities and the planet.’
ICL’s research found that Cold Fire, used at just 1%, extinguished fires up to 40% faster than water alone and reduced the amount of water required to do this by two-thirds.
Cold Fire carries NFPA Standard 18 (US and Canada) and UL Classified Wetting Agent 2N75.
Cold Fire key features:
- Environmental – Cold Fire uses less water because it extinguishes fires more quickly which reduces run-off, reduces smoke released into the atmosphere, results in less carbon release into water courses etc. and allows other fires to be tackled that cannot be addressed with water alone.
- Safety – Cold Fire reduces the risk to fire crews in building and structural fires by cutting down the time firefighters are exposed to heat and carbon from Class A, B, D and F type fires. It also protects adjacent properties.
- Financial – Cold Fire can deliver significant cost savings, both in operational resources and time saving at incidents, as well as for capital expenditure on new appliances.
- Political – Cold Fire reduces the impact on local communities from drifting smoke, reduces road closure times, and allows firefighters to demonstrate that they are taking the environment and clean air seriously by using modern additives.
