Neil Orbell joined the Fire Service as a fire fighter in 1982. In numerous roles in the service Neil has managed key policy and delivery functions, overseen the implementation of large change programmes, and during secondment to CLG led on the development of national guidance for the fire service. During his career, Neil has attended and taken command roles at some of London’s most challenging incidents, including major fires, major flooding events and at Edgware Road during the 7/7 London bombings. As Assistant Commissioner for Fire Safety, Neil has responsibility for the enforcement of the Regulatory Reform Order (2005), regulatory and community safety policy, the delivery of fire safety and petroleum inspections, fire engineering, fire investigation, community safety interventions, youth engagement and education.
